Engineering Physics is a scientific discipline that has grown alongside and in response to the advancements in science and technology worldwide. History shows that engineering physics education programs around the globe began to develop in the 1940s after universities recognized the need for engineering education with a broad foundation in physics and mathematics.
Currently, graduates of engineering disciplines managed with traditional engineering sciences generally possess specific and specialized skills. The connection between engineering disciplines and pure basic sciences has not been bridged. Therefore, the function, vision, and mission of the Engineering Physics profession are often described as engineering that is capable of operating at the boundary of new technology development utilizing basic sciences, mathematics, and physics, thus being able to enter all stages of the upstream to downstream process in the application of basic and applied sciences.
