The School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore offers the following Graduate Programme:
Graduate Programme by Research (Doctor of Philosophy)
- Pursue an independent and supervised research project. Required to complete a certain number of courses.
- All successful applicants are admitted as Research Student initially, and subsequently confirmed as PhD candidate after a confirmation exercise (known as Qualifying Examination).
- Full Scholarships are available to outstanding candidates.
NTU Research Scholarship
- NTU Research Scholarship is awarded to outstanding candidates pursuing PhD programme.
- The award covers the annual tuition fee and the annual computer fee. The maximum period of the award is up to four years.
- Stipend of S$2,000/month before Qualifying Examination and S$2,500/month after Qualifying Examination
- Support 1 local and 1 overseas conferences. This will be discussed in more detail during the talk.

General Admission Requirements
- A Bachelor degree with honors of at least a Second Class Upper level or equivalent (for example CGPA of 3.2 out of 4). A good Master degree (e.g. CGPA 3.2 out of 4) together with a Bachelor degree (Second Class Upper level or equivalent) will have an advantage.
- For international applicants whose mother tongue is not English, a good TOEFL score is required. Test dates must be within 2 years or less from the date of your application. IELTS can also be used in place of TOEFL.
- International applicants are also required to have GRE score. Test dates must be within 5 years or less from the date of your application. Applicants from India may use the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering [GATE] score of at least 90% in place of GRE. [You need to attach a photocopy of the TOEFL and GRE test scores to the online application. Official test scores are not required when you are sending in the application.]
For candidates who have not taken these scores, they may sit for English Proficiency Test (EPT) and Technical Proficiency Test (TPT) in lieu of TOEFL/IELTS and GRE/GATE scores respectively, which will be conducted during our visit. The test will be conducted as follow:.
Date : Wednesday, 28 Oct. 15
Venue : Multimedia Room STEI, Labtek V 4th floor.
Agenda : 9:00-10:00: Admission talk and introduction to the PhD programme at EEE/NTU.
10:00-12:00: Technical Proficiency Test (1 hr and 30 mins) and English Proficiency Test (30 mins).
The details of the tests:
English Proficiency Test (EPT)
- EPT is conducted for candidates interested in pursuing PhD programme but have not taken TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System)
- Duration of EPT is 30 minutes
- EPT requires the candidates to write an essay based on a given topic
Technical Proficiency Test (TPT)
- TPT is conducted for candidates interested in pursuing PhD programme but have not taken GRE (Graduate Record Examination) or GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering)
- Duration of TPT is 1 hour 30 minutes
- 2 Sections – Section A and Section B
- Section A consists of 25 Multiple Choice Questions of 2 marks each and modeled after GRE questions. Section B consists of 10 questions of 5 marks each, modeled after first year Engineering mathematics questions
- Calculator is not allowed during TPT
